A record R130 000 has been raised for breast cancer thanks to Cell C’s Playing for Pink Polo which took place at the end of 2017. Reigning Miss South Africa Dr. Adè van Heerden yesterday handed over a cheque to the non-profit organisation Reach for Recovery’s Ditto Project which helps breast cancer survivors, with no medical aid or funds and who cannot afford to undergo breast reconstructive surgery following diagnosis and mastectomy, single and or double, achieve balance and dignity. Reach for Recovery provides prostheses to those who cannot afford breast reconstruction for a donation of between R50 and R75. Reach for Recovery also helps these women by walking the journey with them, from diagnosis to recovery, offering strength, guidance, and compassion throughout the experience. In light of the water crisis that has hit South Africa, and more severely in the Western Cape, local organisations in Overberg have come together in an initiative to save water. The Caledon Casino Hotel Spa and Entertainment and the Theewaterskloof (TWK) Local Municipality have entered into a joint venture to collect the spa water from The Caledon and pump it back to the Badskop reservoir.  The water will be used for treatment and distribution to the residents of Caledon and surrounding areas.  The Caledon so far has invested over R400 000 in the plant and machinery, infrastructure, and ongoing maintenance. The water will then be delivered to the purification plant, which TWK municipality has invested in.
