“With fist over heart and peri-peri chicken wing in hand, I do swear that I will be (mostly) faithful to the Comedy Cabinet and will disrespect and poke fun at the Comedy Constitution and all other hilarious laws of the Cabinet; and I undertake to hold my office as Minister with honour and humour; to be truly hilarious; not to divulge directly (but through my spokesperson) any secret matter or another comic’s material entrusted to me; and to perform the functions of my office with half-hearted vigour and to be fired up by comedy.” These were the words that echoed through the halls at the official unveiling of  Nando’s presents MASS HYSTERIA, the stand-up comedy tour that takes politics to the people.  Now in its third year, the Minsters swore their oaths to make South Africa a funnier place – and as elections go, this was one of the stiffest ever. Hysteria (of the bad kind), tears (not from laughing) and general disappointment are what John Vlismas would like to avoid should fans of his upcoming John Vlismas Is/In 40 show not be able to secure their tickets.   After announcing he would celebrate his 40 th birthday (it happens to the best of us) by putting on a one-man comedy show like no other, the public (bless them) have responded so eagerly that both evening shows on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 June are close to selling out. With demand high, John Vlismas responded immediately (bless him) by releasing a third show date – Saturday 15 June at 17h00 .   The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg will receive enthusiastic comedy fans and lovers of a good laugh when the “Short Troublemaker” will tell everyone in attendance what his take is on turning the dreaded age.   “I heard that Steve Hofmeyr was planning a show for 17:00 on Saturday , the 15 th of June...
