Cell C Playing for Pink Polo Raises R130 000 for Breast Cancer

A record R130 000 has been raised for breast cancer thanks to Cell C’s Playing for Pink Polo which took place at the end of 2017.

Reigning Miss South Africa Dr. Adè van Heerden yesterday handed over a cheque to the non-profit organisation Reach for Recovery’s Ditto Project which helps breast cancer survivors, with no medical aid or funds and who cannot afford to undergo breast reconstructive surgery following diagnosis and mastectomy, single and or double, achieve balance and dignity.

Reach for Recovery provides prostheses to those who cannot afford breast reconstruction for a donation of between R50 and R75. Reach for Recovery also helps these women by walking the journey with them, from diagnosis to recovery, offering strength, guidance, and compassion throughout the experience.

This is the third time that Cell C has been the title sponsor of the Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo Event which took place at the Inanda Club in Sandton late last year.

In 2015, the event raised R50 000, doubling to R100 000 the following year. In 2017 it again broke records.

Says Cell C Managing Executive: CSI, Suzette van der Merwe: “We are delighted with the R130 000 raised which will allow Reach for Recovery to help more women. Cell C’s core focus is women empowerment and, an event such as this is the perfect vehicle to raise awareness and show our support to those women affected by, as well as those victorious in defeating this disease.

“The polo invitational is a glamorous event but there is a serious message behind the day’s festivities. It was a pleasure to work alongside The Unlimited Group and the Inanda Polo Club in bringing a world-class polo event to enthusiasts of the sport which continues to grow in attendees year-on-year.”
