FIRING UP AND RECOGNISING THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE YOU!

Flying under the radar (chickens notwithstanding), you’ll find some businesses that intrinsically put their people front and center. It’s always been that way at Nando’s, following their co-founder Robbie Brozin’s belief that it’s not only about the chicken, but “it’s the people who make the chicken” that matter first and foremost.

Each year, in the bustling heart of Lorentzville, Nando’s Central Kitchen gets Fired Up by their annual Griller’s Challenge event that serves as a celebration of the heroes behind the grill.

“Every turn of our flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken is timed and flavoured to perfection!  It’s so much more than simply “grilling”. What we do has become an art! Our “Nandocas”, the name we give to all members of our Nando’s family, embody the pride, passion, and heart that goes into making our  famous PERi-PERi chicken. We know that our strength lies in our people, that’s why we celebrate and recognise them,” says Mike Cathie, Chief Executive Officer, Nando’s South Africa.

“Our Annual Griller’s challenge is more than just a competition. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of Nando’s and reinforce our magic,” says Cathie. The Grillers Challenge starts regionally with 14 winners from each region then selected to battle it out at the National Competition!

Nando’s is proud to announce Mzanzi’s finest grillers who are firing it up across the country and who have been selected as this year’s Top Grillers at the Nando’s National Griller’s Challenge:

1.       Lwazi Makhekhe - Nando’s Hermanus, WC
2.       Bukhosi Mhlophe – Nando’s Columbine, GP
3.       Sanele Khumalo – Nando’s Constantia Kloof, GP
4.       Bright Mamvura – Nando’s Adderley, WC

The National winners will go on to represent South Africa during a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the International Grillers Challenge to be held Sydney Australia in November this year. South African grillers will join winners from the Nando’s globe which is made up of over 30 countries from around the world to battle it out for the title of world’s best griller.

Recognising and celebrating it’s people is core to the Nando’s team, they understand that rewarding staff isn’t a nice to have, but a part of the DNA that sets them apart.
