Tsogo Sun Sprint celebrated another successful year at Golden Horse Casino

Pietermaritzburg’s top entertainment destination, Golden Horse Casino, played host to the eagerly anticipated 55th Tsogo Sun Sprint on Saturday, 27 May 2017. The event attracted some of the local who’s who, as well as out of towners, for a day of glamour and competitive horse-racing.

Attendees kicked the day off in style and were treated to a fashion show showcasing this year’s fashion competition entrants’ creative flair. This annual competition serves to encourage and challenge upcoming and established designers alike to show off their finest design skills. This year’s theme was “Unrein your Style” and did not disappoint the audience gathered around the catwalk.

The competition categories were broken down into Most Striking Couple, Classic Race Wear – Female and Male and Exceptional Race Day Hat or Fascinator – the winner of each category walked away with a R5 000 cash prize, while the runners up each walked away with their share of the R40 000 cash pool presented by Golden Horse Casino Marketing Manager, Moonyean Smit.

“It was a privilege to witness some of the finest fashion creations coming from our local designers.  The competition brought a lot of excitement to the property and the designers definitely delivered their best by expressing their individuality without holding back,” says Maureen Kivits, Golden Horse Casino General Manager.

With the fashion competition concluded, it was time for the crowd to sit back and enjoy a glass of the finest bubbly whilst taking in the exceptional horse racing events. The ambiance around the property was abuzz with stakes of over R3.7 million on the day. There were four Grade 1 sprint races with some of the most elite horses in South Africa participating, all races offered 1 200 metres of speed, power and skill.

Trained by SG Tarry and ridden by S Khumalo, Bull Valley confirmed his status as the leading male sprinter in South Africa when he stormed to an emphatic victory in Saturday’s R1 million Grade 1 Tsogo Sun Sprint race.

“This year’s Tsogo Sun Sprint was a resounding success and we could not have done it without our loyal horse racing and fashion enthusiasts who continuously show us their support. The oldest and richest race in South Africa has become one of the most elite horseracing events on the country’s social calendar. We aim to continue to provide our guests with top notch entertainment,” concluded Kivits.

There is always great entertainment in store for guests and visitors at Golden Horse, so visit www.goldenhorsecasino.co.za for more information.
