Celeb Fashion – SA Fashion Week opening party

By Itu Thulare
There’s truly nothing more refreshing than the scent of Fashion Week. Last night saw the opening party of the much anticipated Cruz vodka SA Fashion Week, which had some of us fashion-conscious gofers eyeing the red carpet and most importantly, the effort that Mzansi’s A-listers put forth.
In the back of my mind I still cannot erase the effect Solange had on me in Paris Fashion Week with her stunning taste and appreciation for exquisite garments and statement pieces. She’s always been a favourite; alas this is not Paris and she’s unfortunately not my ‘bff’ as I have dreamed of. In the attempt of soothing my ‘bff’ reality check, I scouted the hot and not so hot ensembles at the SA Fashion Week opening party sponsored by Cruz Vodka.

DJ Shimza, DJ Kent and the Layders kept the guests entertained while celebrities posed for photos and interviews on the Cruz Black Carpet.

I’ve chosen to go through looks that got a reaction out of me, and unfortunately it wasn’t just one reaction, and some looks just had me looking the other direction because that’s a conversation I just don’t want to have.
The Best
Then Refilwe Modiselle rocked a hot LBD that said “I’m here for the party”… Believe it ladies, if you’re unsure of what to where the little black number will always stay in the forefront. She accessorised it well and kept it simple which is why I loved her look.
Dineo Moeketsi
My best dressed for the evening goes to Thando Thabethe and Dineo Moeketsi. Thando rocked a black jumpsuit that I just couldn’t stop staring at; minimal accessories which reminded me of Blake Lively on the red carpet yet stylish and dominant. Dineo was suited up in a dark green ensemble which served as a painted canvas for the Fashion Gods from the House of Ole… Totes amazing - she was a ten for me!

Pearl Modiadie tried to redeem herself after that mess she wore at the Metro Fm awards, she stole the night in a floor length black dress by Black Coffee. Another Celeb who owned the night.

On the other side of splendid I encountered outfits that made me want to express myself via memes. Weza Solange wore a blue velvet gown accessorised with a scarf… I think she was dressed by Pulse

Luthando Shosha “Lootlove”, another celebrity that can do no wrong in our eyes, she took it to the next level bringing some feminine touch to a masculine look and owned the look.

Sammy Sosa looked cool, just the fit of the pants just look wrong

 The basic ...

Vanessa Carreira
Zuraida Jardine
I love Vanessa Carreira and Zuraida Jardine so much! But Vanessa’s skirt reminded me of my mom’s lounge curtains back in the 90’s and Zuraida’s ensemble just looked heavy.

One last look that I was unsure about but had me leaning towards the ‘dislike panel’ was my favourite girl, Nomzamo Mbatha’s look. The lace was a bit of overkill, so was the head wrap – nothing worked here. It came across that little effort was placed in putting together the ensemble.

And Lerato Kganyago #FixItJesus

Maps “Him Again” Maponyane was there, its never an event without him these days. For once he looked simple but still stylish.

Boity dress was just all over the place, too many great ideas in one place, which ended up being a flop nji.
Jessica Nkosi looked amazing in a white and turquoise dress that had just enough detail to be labelled elegant, besides the fact that she’s gorgeous, she always dresses up to the occasion although I’m unsure if I’d where this dress to this kind of party -maybe a wedding or something...  she still gets huge thumbs up from me.
There’ a short recap from the Mode Queen, hoping to see extreme improvement on the shows coming up. Till then, au revoir! Do you guys agree? who was your best and worst dressed?
