MINI launches the new MINI 5 Door into space

In its 55-year history, MINI has reached many milestones – the most recent being the launch of the new MINI 5 door, this being MINI’s first five door model in the small premium car segment. With the retail launch now aside, which took place on 1 November, MINI South Africa wanted to see how much further they could push the concept of a ‘car launch’ to give it a more literal meaning.

With this unconventional plan in mind, MINI launched the new MINI 5 Door into space via a video recording which can be viewed at www.minitospace.co.za.

“MINI is about breaking boundaries and doing things that only MINI can. Part of our brand DNA is clever design, the use of space, technology and of course an irrepressible sense of fun. This campaign encapsulates all of that. MINI is taking a big step for motoring,” says Kabelo Rabotho, General Manager of MINI South Africa.

Besides the two extra doors that allow easy access to the rear seat, the new MINI 5 door has all the typical hallmarks of a MINI and offers 278 litres of boot spaces as well as extra headroom and legroom. The new MINI 5 Door is currently available with a choice of two petrol engines, the 3-cylinder Cooper and 4-cylinder Cooper S engine.

Competition

There’s also a competition element for the MINI to Space campaign. MINI South Africa is running a competition where entrants have to guess where the MINI landed.  Entrants need to visit www.minitospace.co.za to select the spot, on a digital grid, where they think the MINI would have landed. What’s the big prize? Well, the adventure continues for the winner, he or she will get to drive the new MINI 5 Door for five months in 2015. The competition ends on 30 January 2015.
