Jeannie D, Gail Mabalane and Jo-Ann Strauss cover Women's health 5th birthday issue

This month, Women’s Health celebrates five years of inspiring SA women to look and feel their best, with a Special Collector’s Issue and a sexy free gift. The issue features well-known TV stars Jeannie D, Gail Mabalane and Jo-Ann Strauss, who have all appeared on the cover of Women’s Health over the past five years.

Launched in 2009, Women’s Health quickly carved out a niche as SA’s favourite healthy-living women’s title and is now the second biggest-selling English women’s monthly, with an average circulation of 58 686 (ABC: Apr-June). Readership has grown incrementally over the past year and the title now reaches 515 000 SA women, an 11% increase on the previous annual figure (AMPS Jul 13-June 14 BA).

The fifth birthday issue features a combination of highlights from the past five years (best workouts, weight-loss tips and recipes, most humorous sex advice!), a must-read celeb feature and super-quick beach body plan – just in time for summer. Best of all, newsstand consumers and print subscribers will receive an exclusive Women’s Health edit of the choose-your-own erotic destiny novel, A Girl Walks Into A Bar by Helena S Paige.

Continuing the festivities, Women’s Health has teamed up with former Men’s Health cover star Johry Batt to launch the #WHhigh5 campaign. Readers will be asked to nominate the women they think deserve a “High Five”, in recognition of their healthy-living efforts, and may be surprised with a visit to their fitness class from Johry himself! Video clips reflecting the activities surrounding this campaign will be shared across all Women’s Health social media platforms. Don’t miss the action!

Noteworthy in this issue:

Celebrity Exclusive (p36). Find out more about cover stars Jeannie D, Gail Mabalane and Jo-Ann Strauss as they share their workout tips and tell readers what they like most about themselves, thereby encouraging readers to do the same. “We chose these three women as they epitomise the Women’s Health philosophy: they’re happy, healthy and confident and have the ability to inspire others,” says Women’s Health editor Kate Wilson.

The Whole Truth About Sugar (p114). With World Diabetes Day approaching in November and the documentary Fed Up on SA screens, Women’s Health examined the reality of our addiction to sugar. This is a must-read if you think you might be addicted and need help to kick the habit.

SwimTeam (p97). With the summer holidays fast approaching, Women’s Health aims to end your swimsuit stress by offering a super-flattering selection of cozzies for each and every body type. Whether you want an itsy-bitsy two-piece or full coverage, fashion editor Mari Groenwald has the suit for you.

The Women’s Health “Special Collector’s Issue” is currently on sale.
