WhatOutstanding wines and local fare at Elim Wine & Food Celebration

Besides the top notch wines from Elim and surrounds, visitors at this year’s hosting farm, Black Oystercatcher, can tuck into some of the best country food available and mellow out to the sounds of popular local artist Valiant Swart.

Wine lovers will be spoilt for choice with this rare opportunity of tasting the wide range of exciting wines from this relatively young wine growing region, known for producing cool climate wines of great elegance and finesse. The participating wineries, Black Oystercatcher, Dâbar, The Giant Periwinkle, Ghost Corner, Jean Daneel Wines, Lomond, Sijnn, Strandveld Vineyards and The Berrio, represent some of Africa’s southernmost wineries. Beer lovers will also have the opportunity to sample artisanal ale from Africa’s most southerly brewery, Fraser’s Folly.

The entrance fee for the Elim Wine & Food Celebration on Saturday, 11 October is R75 per person, including a branded wine glass. Tickets are available at www.webtickets.co.za. Entrance for under 18’s is free


What: Joburg Festival of Beer
when: Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of September

The two day festival, which has established itself in Cape Town as the largest Festival of Beer in the Southern Hemisphere, promises to be bigger and badder than ever before.  With up to 160 beers on show from local and international brewers, including some exciting new faces in the brewing industry, beer lovers will be spoilt for choice.

Apart from offering a wide variety of beers to sample, the festival will also have home brewing demonstrations, food and beer pairings, guided beer tours, a selection of delicious food stalls, great music and sport on TV screens. There will also be an exciting campaign dedicated to getting beer fit in the weeks leading up to the festival, as well as live from the event, ensuring both mental and physical preparation of all things beer! Brewers exhibiting at the Joburg Festival of Beer 2014 include:
Brewhogs: Brewed by female brewmaster Apiwe Nxusani Brewhogs is based in Kyalami and produces 32 000 litres of natural and preservative free beer per month including a Red Lager and Pilsener.
