EVENT REVIEW: SPRITE UNCONTAINABLE FINALS

02 August 2014 we headed to the sprite uncontainable  finals which was held at one of sowetos hottest youth venues  Zone 6 venue in Soweto, wouldn’t have chosen a better place. After months of the sprite team searching for South Africas most talented rappers, dancers and graffiti artists, which saw them traveling to Bloemfontein, Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria to find a talent that was contained and make them uncontainable.  This being the 3rd year of sprite searching for talent and investing in the growth of South Africas growing hip hop industry.

Sprite Brand manager Hlukani Rikhotso had this to say about the sprite uncontainable talent search “Sprite is committed to providing a platform and audience for youth to unleash their talent and express their true selves. The brand has been instrumental in the development of hip hop in the country and the fusion of the different hip hop elements that are a celebration of the lifestyle,”

Sprite went all out to make sure fans had the best sprite uncontainable experience, they literally had a basketball court inside the venue and a massive skating ramp outside of the venue, where skaters, bikers got a chance to showcase their unique skills that make them stand out from the rest. Unfortunately like any good show something is wrong is bound to happen,

This year’s event proved to be much of a let down compared to the previous two events, the first one being the guest list management team, we got to the event and found that someone had used on of the names to access the venue, but the team quickly sorted out the matter we were accredited. Another let down was after an hour into the event we experienced a little minor electricity blackout that lasted 30 minutes, thank God for the backup generator which was on afterwards.

After that delay the show had to go on, it was time for the NBA showcase, the favourite part was when the uhm eisssh Gifted Cheerleaders, they managed to turn things around, they proved to be a crowd puller, they showcased their flexibility and I can go on but let’s not. The cheerleaders delivered an awesome show that left many guys wanting more, it was time for the NBA showcase omg, that was the high light of the night, some of those tricks that they did was something we were never exposed to.
Sprite uncontainable Judges Mars, Reason and Simba

After the NBA showcase it was time for the finalists to hit the stage to prove to the tough judges which consisted of Rapper Reason, Dance extrodinare Simba and Graffiti artist Mars. During some of the artists performance the sound was bad, I don’t know what was up with it, not even going to try to explain it, but no one could barely hear make up the words most of the performers. It was than time to crown the most uncontainable talent and here are the 2014 sprite uncontainable talent search are
Emcee winner: Luthando Dekeni aka Lolli “skoko sase nyanga”, a kwaito-inspired emcee from Nyanga East in Cape Town, now living in Pretoria.
Dance winner: Benny Chiloane, an enthusiastic, versatile and energetic dancer from Nelspruit.
Graffiti winner: Charles Keylock aka “Riot”, a passionate graffiti artist from Randburg, Johannesburg.
B-ball winner: Andile Zulu, a lightning-fast basketballer from Katlehong.
Fan winner: Shavon Etches, a BA law student at Wits University in Johannesburg.

Tumi on stage
Maggz

After the winners were crowned it was than time for the hip hop festival to begin with performances by Tumi ,I still don’t get why Tumi was booked to perform again, he performed in the sprite uncontainable 2012 singles, no offence we got love and respect for Maggz, it’s not sway it’s a hip hop festival fans want to get their money’s worth, they could have booked Blaklez or Blayze they got good music out and hardly see them performing and Blayze has those random turn up songs that just make you want to turn up and that’s what people wanted.

The good

Lets talk about Pharoahe Monch, performance, he delivered, was really looking forward to his performance, even the bad sound didn’t do anything to harm the performance, he delivered his classics to his loyal fans who flooded near the stage as soon as he started performing.

Thank you sprite for yet another killer show, Eclipse PR for the invite and taking care of us at the event J and zone 6 venue for hosting us at your beautiful venue will sure be back their soon.
