Taung Cultural Calabash Festival
2014 – Celebrating 20 years of discovering new talent in the world of Arts
& Culture.
Mmabana Taung Centre, a center for
children who are more creative in arts could not have proved to be a better and
fitting venue for the media launch.
The Annual Taung Cultural Calabash
is a unique youth based arts festival held annually in Taung, North West
province and it sets out to discover new talent through a series of auditions
held at district level. Amateur and semi-professional artists are identified in
Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts.
The purpose of the media launch was
to inform the media and the people of Taung that the Calabash is bigger and
better than before as seen in the previous years. The National Lottery
Distribution trust fund came on board for this years’ Taung Cultural Calabash.
Mr Moatlhodi Dilotsotlhe CEO of Mmabana Arts, Culture
& Sports Foundation urged all North West residents to bring their children
to the Cultural Calabash Festival to celebrate the heritage and culture of
North West. He hoped that new talent would emerge during this year’s calabash where
various categories are concerned.
The Department of Culture, Arts and
Traditional affairs, MEC Tebogo Modise announced that Bojanala Platinum District,
Dr. Ruth Mompati District, Ngaka Modiri District and Dr. Kenneth Kaunda
District, are amongst the districts where auditions and competition
eliminations will be held served by the Department of Arts & Culture.
The entertainment for the day included the Mmabana
Young Cultural Group who blew the audience away with a genuine performance
demonstrating of what is to be excepted at the festival due to take place on
the 26th – 28th September 2014.
Ogone Sybok and Scotch Mankruajang gave us a
beautiful Latin dance piece, showing us that there will be diversity at the
auditions leading up to the festival.
The auditions are open to all male and female
participants residing in North West from 16 years

West Department Culture, Arts and Traditional AffairsMmabana Arts Culture &
Sport Foundation and the Greater Taung Local Municipality.
There will be accommodation
available for anyone wanting to make a weekend of it and this information can
