EVENT REVIEW : FREEZE FRAME CROWNED 2014 RED BULL BEAT BATTLE WINNERS!

BY GIFT GAVINKO AND BONGANI M

After a months of grueling auditions all over South Africa with over 200 dance crews audition for the most sought after title in South Africa’s dance industry. The day finally arrived where the 8 dance crew finally went head to head in hopes to be crowned this year’s Red bull beat battle Victorians. The guide mag crew made its way to Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, for this year’s red bull beat battle. After last year’s crazy battle we were not going to miss this year’s one.

This year’s competing crews
1.     Freeze Frame – Hip Hop (Kempton Park, Gauteng)
2.     The Prophelaz  – iSbhujwa  and 2013 champions (Tembisa, Gauteng)
3.    Fire – Pantsula (Tembisa, Gauteng) – Wildcard crew as voted for on www.redbullbeatbattle.co.za
4.    Panzan Entertaiment – iSbhujwa (Sebokeng, Gauteng)
5.   Psyko Souljahs – Breaking (Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape)
6.    Supreme I – Hip Hop (Soweto, Gauteng)
7.  The Perfect Storm – Pantsula (Soweto, Gauteng)
8.   Warrior Knights – Hip Hop (Durban, KZN)

All the dancers were ready to go to battle, one impressive performance after the other, the judges had a tough decision to make on deciding who was going to come out victorious and after months of intense rehearsals the stage was set the battle was on, our MC for the night was none other than Mr Thapelo Mokena (The dude from the Hunters dry adverts) who happened to be last year’s MC, this year he was on that Jason Derulo tip riding solo.

This year’s judges were Somgaga (Somizi) , Lorna Maseko (Top Billing presenter), Vouks Nojokes (Bboy Vouks Nojokes), Tumi Tladi (Artistic Intelligence).

One highlight of the night being Panzan Entertainment crew with showing that the sky is the limit and inspiring the crowd with one of the dancers being handicapped but the crew being in sync and one that even inspired Somizi to donate R20 000 to the Sebokeng boys.

With performances by Trancemicsoul, ‘Doc Shebeleza’ Cassper Nyovest was disappointed he didn’t call okmalumekoolkat to perform with him seeing he was also at the event, Siya Shezi, Kwaito legends Trompies, Dj Shimza and DJ switch even giving the fans a taste of his new single featuring L-Tido and Maggz.
Here are some of faces we bumped into.
