This seemed to be the weekend that shattered dreams and kept hopes alive for others, In the Barclays premier league the relegation of two clubs was confirmed and Man City looked to have won their most important match of this season, while in the Nedbank cup, Orlando Pirates are on course to get some salvation from a forgettable season and Chiefs’ dream of getting any silverware this season got another blow.

The relegation of Fulham and Cardiff City
was confirmed after they lost 4 -1 and 3 -0 respectively, both teams needed to
get a positive result to stay in the relegation battle. And on the other side
of the table, Manchester City beat Everton 3 -2 at Goodison Park to take the
title challenge to the last day of fixtures.
The Nedbank cup semis was the final stop
for chiefs as they lost to Bidvest Wits 4-2 on penalties, goals from Sibusiso Vilakazi and Sthembiso Ngcobo for Wits and January signings Katlego
Mphela and George Maluleka for
Chirefs saw that the match go to extra time and eventually to a penalty
shoot-out. Orlando Pirates may have something to smile about come the end of
the season after they beat Maritzburg United 2-1 to reach the Nedbank Cup final.

With this being the
penultimate weekend for most leagues, the next weekend is not one to miss. And
for me personally as I am a Manchester United fan I will be happy to see the
season end and will be extra joyous if Liverpool doesn’t win the league.

Last but definitely not least, this weekend saw Floyd Mayweather jr. go to 47-0 and win the WBA belt when he defeated Marcos Maidana on majority points decision at the MGM Grand arena in Vegas, Mayweather is set to accept Britain’s Amir Khan’s challenge for a fight later this year after he also won his fight on Saturday.
