INTERVIEW: UPCLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH MO FLAVA

 By Margaret Mothapo

This week on up close and personal, we chat to DJ and  Tv host Mo Flava,
·  Tell us about yourself in 3words?
Dedicted, playful, sensible

·      How are you adjusting from moving from a morning show to afternoon show?
The first week was a shock to the system, because I had to rewire my clock to adapt to the new situation, but I’ve finally found my rhythm again. Waking up at 4am is no child’s play, so amen to the end of that era l.o.l

·     Do you still get nervous for your shows?
I think it’s more of getting a heightened sense of things, becasue all your sensory organs have to be more responsive than normal. But its a good feeling, I call it excitement more than nerves
·    Who was your favorite Dj on Yfm while growing up?
Phat Joe. I enjoy his style of radio.

·   How was the transaction like from radio to TV? And if you were to choose between radio and TV, which one would you choose?
It was an interesting transition because radio doesn’t really require you to use physical gestures when driving a conversation, but with TV, it’s the opposite. But after a few months I got the concept and started building a style. I love radio, so at this point, radio it is.
·    There’s a huge trend of DJ’s releasing album, can we expect a Mo flava album any time soon?
I’ve got 3 compilations to brag about so far l.o.l, so I’ve done my share of album releases. I then released a song of my own, and plan on releasing more song.im currently in production with a number of vocalists and will have music out before june, inlcuidng a video!
·     If you were not a DJ which occupation would you have chosen?
Either a football player, considering that I played for many years and was pretty decent, or politician, if that’s considered as a career l.o.l

·    If you could live anywhere in the world where would you like to live and why?
In Ibiza just off the coast of Spain. This little island is heaven on earth. The weather is generally friendly, the beaches are full of naked women, and there’s nonstop partying. Its a little pricey aswell, but hey, so is a weekend away in Cape Town

·    What makes you the happiest and why?
Living my dream. Every human being wants to live their lives doing something they actually want to do. My job allows me to make myself happy, and make others happy as well. It allows me to empower myself, and help other grow and developed all at once. I’ve giving young people bursaries to study, I’ve unearth female dj talent, ive donated uniforms to school kids who need them the most, and all of this makes it all worth it.

·  What is the 3 items you cannot live without?
My car/s, Condoms, and my bankcard

· What would you say is your career highlight so far?
Radio-doing a successful breakfast show on yfm, and also getting to do the afternoon drive too
TV-presenting an award winning music show on one of the biggest channels in the country

· Do you have any life lessons you would like to share with your fans?
Never under estimate what the next person can do for you to help you grow or succeed in life. Every experience in life makes you wiser. Knowledge is truly everything

·  If you were given a chance to change your name, what name would you change it to?
Kgotso l.o .l

· What would you do today if it was your last day on earth?
Catch a ride to the moon, I mean who wouldn’t want to visit the moon at least once in their life

·  So what’s next for Mo flava?
Build a pumping afternoon drive show on yfm
Release some good house music
Helping more young people to enter the entertainment industry by searching for the best musical talents out there, watch this space.
Give away more bursaries
Explore other projects on television

Host more events, including another installment of my  SummerSmash party later on this year
