SOWING THE SEEDS LEAVES AUDIENCES WANTING MORE

Sowing the Seeds 2013 promised two solid days of quality vibes, top-notch beats, good people and a spectacular new venue at the five-star Welgelegen Manor Estate.
Thirty of South Africa’s top bands and DJs – and international act Dune Rats from Australia – performed to eager and enthusiastic crowds who partied from early morning until the late-night hours. Sowing the Seeds was, as one festival-goer tweeted: “The best vibe of a small festival I have ever been to. Truth.”
As gates opened on Friday afternoon, people piled into the festival grounds armed with tents, cooler boxes and their party vibe, in anticipation of the weekend ahead. Friday night opened with Dubmasta China on the decks of the Electronic Stage, followed by Michael Lesar, Ma’Original and James Copeland, setting the pace for what became a great EDM party.

Hot Water.
Campers woke morning to a breathtaking sunrise and clear blue skies, signaling the perfect start to full day of mashing music and bouncing beats. #YoungSeeds winner, BlackLight Panda, opened the main stage with a rocking performance, followed by new-folk sensation Nakhane Toure, then Beatenberg and the ever-popular Matthew Mole, who got the crowds and Twitter buzzing. Bringing an edge and indie-rock vibe to the stage was Shortstraw, whose encore was praised by the audience. Guitar maestro Albert Frost, the talented one-man-band Jeremy Loops and South Africa’s world music icons, Hot Water, all got the crowd pounding the ground into the evening. Instrumental band, Bateleur, showed us why they are one of the best around with Fruits & Veggies and Beach Party literally throwing down for a party into the night. Taxi Violence and ISO pleased with their chart-topping hits before the eagerly anticipated Australian band, Dune Rats, wowed crowds with their indie-party-rock tunes. The Stella’s had the honour of closing the main stage to the cheers of the amped crowd.

The DJ stage kicked off at with Lucky Luke and Panic Sisters vs Your Own Asian, putting EDM fans in a jubilant mood as they prepared for a full day of dancing in the most picturesque setting. Dr Khumalo, Andrew The DJ and Lil’Bow provided the most entertaining lunch special for festival-goers as they basked in the sun and danced their worries away. As the sun started to set, Gateway Drugs and Christian Tiger School were on the decks and a round of sundowners took place with Liver and Sassquatch welcoming in the night for everyone on the dance-floor. Musical Chairs, Mix ‘n Blend and The Weasel kept the party pumping and people dancing into the wee hours of Sundamorning.

Richard Brokensha, front-man for ISO, explains the joy of performing at Sowing the Seeds; ‘It’s always a pleasure to play in a beautiful place like this. Seed Experiences have always supported ISO and it’s always special to perform at their events.’ Sophie Abendanon of Seed Experiences said ‘We just want to thank everyone for making the debut of Sowing the Seeds at Welgelegen Manor Estate a great success. We look forward to another exceptional event next year.’
Sowing the Seeds, the teaser for Rocking the Daisies, was a great festival weekend that received nothing but positive feedback from everyone who attended. See you again in 2014!
