21 poets and a poem

On  the 8august 2012 i attended 21 poets and a poem which was at the johannesburg theatre in Baamfontein.
The play is about people’s potential. "Through poetry we encourage the audience to believe that they have the potential to meet the demands of life"

I really didn't know what to expect because honestly I usually don't attend events like those. I got the perfect sitting, upon arrival I noticed how small the venue was a little small was expecting a bigger venue. The show started still didn't know what to expect hoestly the opening scene was a little dull, than the event started, when the first words were said when they were staging 21 poets and a poem, left me speechless, heart beating slowly and faster again thats how powerful it was. the lead actor obakeng Makhutle who played the lead role of Themba who was on the path of finding himeslf his destiny and persuing his life long goal of being a story teller.

one line that striked me hard was "the price of living is high, when you living a lie"
The event was just powerful literally to much to take in, the performers gave it their all, just looking at the performance you could swear they have been doing it for years, the way they deliverd everything, the words that were spoken literally left me breathless, its amazing what people can do with words.

It was a beautiful play, they told stories about us, that dreamer u gives it up all, to follow his true passion , his ambitions, the only thing that lingered in my mind was the words that were spoken and sang, especially when female poet and singer Sane Jobodwana who sang the beautiful "JOZI" song which made me get up and sang along.

there were so many beautiful words said on stage, how i wished i had a storage memory i would say them all, but you had to be there to experience them for your self, i encourage everyone to go out there and support all the young people who are working hard, pushing themselves and living there dreams, attend theatres, poetry nights, you might take in something that wuill change your life.

  1. I guess we were in the same page before you attended the poetry show. because i have never attended it in my life and i had a negatve perception about poetry. but now that you are explaining how you felt when you got in the theatre, i also want to experience the feeling.
