So you know your boy G is always got the hook up on each and everything thats happeneing in music and the latest events, so this week i had the pleasure of attending the SAMA(south african music awards) which happened on sunday 29 and monday 30 in Sun city. The SAMAS was celebrating its 18th year, it was finally legal and also the fact that it was bac where it began Sun City, unlike the previous one in Monte casino and the fact that there was a new MTNSAMA Ceo Randall Abrahams(RSA Idols judge), who had to take on a big responsibilty.

You've never seen the SAMAs unless you see them live, so many people don't know there two SAMA events one hosted on Sunday which they don't air on Tv and also the main event which is aired live on Tv which took place on monday. The Sunday awards were on point i think even better than the main event ones, with the host being comedian Tumi Moroka(lLOL on mzansi magic) and also upcoming comedian Tats Nkonzo who managed to keep the crowd entertained through the whole of the event through the night. Zahara and DJ cleo dominated take home 2 awards on that night and the best part of the night was when the gave the life time achievement award for their contribution to the South African music industry to Ray Phiri and also Vusi Mahlasela and they did a live duet on stage a once of performance.

Than came the event that everyone was looking forward to the Monday live event that was shown on TV sabc 1 it started showing live around 8:30, what you didn't see was the first four awards that were handed out before the live event, which was hosted by Pearl Thusi(RGB presenter) which lasted for 30 minutes. and than came the main event where Zahara opened the show with a beautiful performance and she managed to take home 8 awards the notable one being album of the year and female artists of the year and Dj Cleo took another award for best overall downloads and the performances all of them were on point especially Micasa and Zakwe closing performance was on point, the best one of the night.

overall it was the best award ceremony they ever threw, the sound quality was briliant and the lighting and graphics this year were the highlight and also if you noticed that the SAMA award trophy had a new design, Randall Abrahams did a good job, looking forward to SAMA19 and thank you MTN for the tickets and Sun international for the accomandation.
Gift I agree with you, the event was a success compared to previous years.e.g last year's event was a bore and was not well planned. Athur was not prepared to be the M.C of the event which actually made a poor introduction of the function. I must congradulate the pantsula dancer (HHP bosso ke mang)for a wonderful performance on stage.
ReplyDeleteIT WAS A BEAUTIFUL EVENT OVERALL, AND I DO BELIEVE THAT HE DID A GOOD JOB PERSONALLY, THEY JUST WANTED TO CATER TO EVERYONE

DeleteThe event for this year went well but if i were to put my suggestion to the organnisers of the event i would say they should publish a number of adverts to the various media so that they attracts more viewers or audiences
ReplyDeleteI DONT KNOW WHAT YOU WERE WATCHING WERE WAYCHING, BUT THE SAMAS WAS IN ALMOST EVERY MEDIA PLATFORM YOU CAN IMGINE, FROM RADIO, TV, MAGAZINES, EVERYONE WAS TALKING ABOUT IT

DeleteWe should just call them MTN ZAHARA SAMMA AWARDS.that woman dominated.big up to ZAHARA
ReplyDeletelol, yeah she dominated, she worked hard she deserved it all, and also cleo dominated other categories, which were the highlights of the night
DeleteThe SAMA's this year were boring for me; I mean the performances were not as good as that compared to the past years. The only thing that was done right was making sure that they went back to Sun City and not repeat the last year Monty casino which was not a very good venue to host the SAMA;s
ReplyDeletei dont know which ones you were watching, but we all agree to disagree, the performance was all incredible especially micasa performance
DeleteWow just by reading this blog I could just picture the event sounds awesome man I wish I was there...I didnt watch the show on tv but I saw snippets of it on Selimathunzi and 3Talk It looked of much better quality than the past couple of years South Africa really is moving with the times I must say great job Randall.
ReplyDeletehe did a great job, many people doubted that he could pull it off, he did it like a pro and made it the best samas in history
DeleteHonestly feel like the samas have lost value from the other previous years...But i would've loved to see ray perform, he is a very good artist.
ReplyDeletelets all support south african music and quit the hate,
Deletehe samas where great they should build on the hype they created around the event
ReplyDeletethey were a great event, another big achievement for south african music, its showing the growth we are experiencing over the years
