THREE SHIPS WINS WORLDWIDE WHISKY TROPHY

The Three Ships 10 Year Old Single Malt has become the first South African whisky to be awarded the Worldwide Whisky Trophy and a gold outstanding distinction at the annual International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) held in London.  In a second round of blind tastings, the gold winners from all the participating countries with the exception of Ireland and Scotland competed for the trophy and judges chose the South African whisky above those from the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK, France, Germany, Japan and Taiwan. A delighted Andy Watts, master distiller of the range, said in the 33 years he had been involved in making Three Ships, he had time and again been astounded by the international acclaim for these whiskies. “Who would have thought back then that we would be able to create such interest in South African whiskies? Traditionally, South Africa is known as a wine and brandy country, and many felt at the time we should rather leave whisky-making to tho...

INTERVIEW: A GUIDED VERSION OF BONGANI GXEKWA

About me  Tell us about yourself, where you from and what do you do? I was born in PE and my mom relocated to Peddie when I was 12, but I continued with my schooling mostly in the friendly and windy city J . I then moved to Johannesburg in 2006 and now I’m in the PR industry. School You studied Polymer Chemistry but opted for a career in PR, what made you make that dramatic change and how did your family deal with that? Actually, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study after my matric year. I think at the time I was capable of doing anything but I was blessed (and studied hard) to earn a scholarship to study Polymer Chemistry. Having worked in the field more than 5 years, it got to a point where I no longer loved what I was doing. That, and other influences, led me to leave my job and I did some soul-searching for a few months until I decided that I would pursue a career in PR. My family wasn’t sure of my choices at first, but they’ve been supportive and they ca...

10 reasons why you should be using Uber

1. App based technology Uber’s app based technology is quick, easy and so simple to use. You can rest assured in the fact that you know you can always get a car whenever or wherever you are. Meaning you don’t really need much airtime that you waste calling the maxi-taxi guy every 3 minutes to find out where he is. 2. You know your driver Uber’s technology allows you to see your driver's name, image, the vehicle that he drives as well as the vehicle registration. Riders will always know who they are getting into a car with. 3. Driver vetting process Uber partner-drivers are registered to drive on the Uber platform. All driver partners have a professional driver’s permit (PrDPs), roadworthy certificate and commercial and passenger liability insurance. Driver-partners then go through a secondary criminal background check, by a third party supplier that leads the industry. You are assured you are being connected to one of the safest drivers on the road. 4. Yo...
