EVENT REVIEW: AUGUSTINE MEETS GOLD STREET SOCIETY

Right off from a hectic day filled with running around Joburg, I headed off to Elevate Rooftop in Down Town Jozi for some new fashion insights – the launch of AugustineGold.

Before I get into my love for garments and the designs I saw, I have to state that I was much confused upon my arrival. Perhaps it’s my high regard for fashion and its essence that had me thinking I’d be stepping into ramped up, a la mode filled atmosphere…but that wasn’t the case, I was greeted by a drunk promo girl who didn’t care to look for my name on the guest list.

As I stepped inside, the venue was congested and very busy, it was quite difficult looking around for the models geared up in the ensembles due to the people turning up and having a great time. I fell in love with what Jenna Dover was wearing (not knowing she was modelling the designs) as I spotted her angelic glow. There’s something about black leather, and there’s that HUGE something about white! I have never met them, but the two fashion heads got it right with the colours.

The theme for the event was Street Chic with a touch of Gold – get it? Not that the beloved people of thy Joburg city executed the theme entirely, but the effort was there nonetheless. I’ll do my best not ask about certain outfits that tortured my eyes because in fashion we allow people to be different and some people misinterpret it, and it’s ok.

I don’t think I got the chance to gaze and examine all the pieces, but most of what I saw I liked, this collaboration is good enough of a hit and gets 3 out 5 Anna Wintour nods from me.

Like any other soiree in the city o’ gold, the launch was filled with celebs galore; I spotted Zuraida Jardine and her hubby, Shashi Naidoo looking sexy as ever, the ever gorgeous Jenna Dover who modelled one of the pieces from the collection along with DJ DooWop looking ever so colourful with her hair rainbow steez.  Then there was Da Les walking around with his bodyguard… Ok.

I didn’t stay long enough for the turn up vibes as I was solely there for the fashion, nevertheless, I did have an interesting 60 minutes.

It would have been great to get more insight from the collaborators, but I didn’t know who to approach and where to do it. With that said, all the best to the two designers with the stunning collection!
Thank you to 4elements media for the invite, grey goose and EvigeWater for the welcome drinks.
