Fashion Highlight: Retrofontein



1. Tell us more about yourself and how did you guys come together?

Kabelo and Sizwe were the original finding members of the brand who were later joined by Kendi.
The team is compiled of eager entrepreneurs who enjoy and promote Africanness through their work.
Sizwe and Kabelo mainly focus on the guys gear and Kendi, on the girls gear.

2. What’s the inspiration behind the label?

The label is inspired by African tribal art, prints, the 70s and 80s and all prints.




3. What sets your label apart from the others here in South Africa?

Our aim sets us apart, in that we want to move away from western influences and embrace our own, which range from South Africa, other countries and all that's in between.


4. Which famous have you dressed so far and who would you like to dress?

We have been fortunate to have people in the public space dig our stuff and wear it. We have had Khuli Chana and Mpho (of Shiz Niz) wear our gear.



5. Beside sweaters what do you guys design?

All will be revealed in the summer collection.


6. Do you guys cater to a certain target market?

Yes, people who are into streetwise and that is predominantly people between the ages of 18 to 25

                






7. Where have you showcased your label before?

We have had the opportunity to have our gear appear on Shiz Niz, Live amp, Morning Live, Noleen's 3
Talk and on an MC at Back To The City.


8. What are your short term and long term goals for Retrofontein?


World domination [laughs]

We are working towards having stores in CPT, DBN and JHB and in years to come, reach the international market.

9. Where do you guys currently sell your clothing line at the moment?

All our gear is available through RHTC Online store.
