the award trophy (via sahiphop.co.za)
We attended the South African hip hop awards workshop which took place on the 13 October 2012 at Ritual stores in Newtown. The main aim of the workshop is to address the issue of the hip hop awards, an open discussion with the stakeholders, where people get the chance to ask questions and interact with the organizers of the award ceremony. The workshop is hosted by presenter Osmic Menoe(Soweto TV ) .  The South African hip hop awards will be on the 21st November 2012, alexander theatre in Braamfontein. So the workshop will be held every Saturday until the main event, don’t confuse them with the other hip hop awards that were held a few years back and a different concept.
With the SA hip hop awards the organizers are aiming to go beyond the Gauteng boarders and involve every province here in South Africa. There will be over 32 categories which involves dancers, rappers, graffiti artists and everyone that contributed to the growth of hip hop here in South Africa. Some of the categories include lyricists of the year, producer of the year, hustler of the year, new comer of the year, best music video and many more, “The big difference,” Menoe says, “is those were the Hype Awards – that’s a magazine. This is the South African Hip Hop Awards. You know how there’s The Source (Magazine) Awards and then there’s the American Music Awards? That’s how I look at it.”
