Last week the guide team attended the Gauteng sports awards nominations announcement party held at The Venue in Melrose arch. The main aim of the night was to announce the nominations for the upcoming Gauteng awards which will take place later on the 7 th of June 2014 at Vodaworld in Midrand. The venue was over flowing with sports stars, celebrities, media, bloggers and government officials, who all braved the cold Johannesburg night to attend the nomination announcement. With a long red carpet where all the stars had their moment walking down it and posing in front of the cameras, at the end of the red carpet guests were welcomed with an ice cold Peroni beer. Red Bull Beat Battle’s quest to find the best dance crews in the country to go up against the 2013 champions The Prophelaz (formally known as I.D.A.) is over. With a new twist, this year saw a ‘Wildcard’ element introduced. From the qualifiers six crews were selected and will have 7 weeks to prepare for the finals in Soweto. Although this was my first time attending the Easter Dj Festival I must say Moriting Park did not look like the Park that I normally see every day. For some reason it was like I am not in Tembisa, the Park was all made up and prepared for the event I must say the set up was on point I was really impressed. We love you Dj Shimza Before getting into the park we had to all go to Boisantha, a lounge not far from the park to verify our tickets and get a tag.  Luckily there was no long queue to get a tag that was one thing that also made me smile as I panicked and thought I would spend hours in a long queue just to get a tag.Thank God that did not happen at all. Be part of the audience as SA’s top comedians come out to watch this year’s up-and-coming comics battle it out for votes at the Savanna Newcomer Showcase on 6 May at the Soweto Theatre.  As part of the build up to the Savanna CCA’s (Comics’ Choice Awards) that takes place in August, this unique comedy showcase kicks off a few months prior and sees all registered comedians in the newcomer category perform a few minutes of stand-up in front of SA’s finest. Why? So the comedy industry knows who to vote for, of course. Between 20 and 30 budding hopefuls from across the country, each have five minutes to impress the audience and make them laugh more – and louder – than their comedic comrades. Last year’s inaugural showcase was electric, with routines ranging from hybrid-vernac and Afrikaans to upper-crust English.  Schalk Bezuidenhout received a standing ovation and went on to win the award at the main event, so the heat is on for the newcomers to deliver the performance...

On the 12 of April 2014 the guide online was invited to the exclusive invite only Skyy Vodka elevated experience held at a secret location in Johannesburg. We were given directions to drive the design district  square in Rosebank, which really got us curious because last time I checked the Skyy vodka elevated experience is normally hosted on a rooftop like last year’s one which was held at Randlords rooftop. When we arrived at the design district square all we could see was this long line of people, in front of them was a bus with the Skyy vodka logo on the side. We stood in that long line to get into the bus which was our official transport for the night to the secret venue. Honestly was not really feeling the whole bus situation because we stood in the line for almost 30 minutes (that’s how long the line was) and the weather was a bit chilly.
