TECHNOLOGY: GAUTENG LAUNCHES GOGAUTENG APP FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT USERS

On the 16 of April 2014, the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport DR Ismail Vadi together with the MEC for Gauteng Department of Economic Development Mr Eric
Xayiya announced the official launch of the #GoGauteng Mobile application at
the Emoyeni Conference Centre, Johannesburg.
The mobile app will help Gauteng road users with information
such as times and schedules on different modes of public transport that they
can use in and around Gauteng. The GoGauteng app will serve as an effective
planning and directing tool for public trantsport users. The GoGauteng will
also include the stations and stops location, listing, operational times and
Data.The GoGauteng app will give users the option to choose their mode of transport which consists of Metrorail, Rea Vaya or Gautrain
Dr Vadi Said “We aim to take advantage of the technology
that exists to reach our goals. Over time, this app should be further developed
to provide real-time passenger information and should be extended to provide
information regarding [other] public transport operations such as taxi services”
Mobility,
the developers of the “GoGauteng” mobile application was the 2ndprize winners
in the mobile category of the Gauteng Accelerator Programme (GAP) innovation
competition hosted by The Innovation Hub.
The app is now available to download from the Andriod app
store, ios and Blackberry app world just search "Gauteng on the move". The app will also be available on Mxit as well as through a USSD service.
