INTERVIEW: Reason

Did an interview with one of my favourite rappers Reason, one of the most talented and down to earth artist, checkout the interview below..

1.You have come a long way in this industry since you released your first album, how did you get started in the industry?
Reason: Unofficially, i'd say with the jingles i used to do for Dj Fresh at Yfm. It wasn't so much "industry" but it was a definite introduction to writing with a brief, entertaining and creating a demand. It's from because of these jingles that i was able to get a link with ProVerb and his (then) manager, his (then) label and his (then) stable mates etc.
2. Describe reason in 3 words?
Reason: Talented. Creative. Sincere.
3.  Where does the name reason come from?
Reason: I believe everything happens for a Reason. Therefore everything has a purpose, mine was music Hence Reason.
4.What made you decide to call your album reason audio 3D?
Reason: It was the best way to explain the fact that the songs are meant to draw you closer and give you perspective. A perspective that makes you feel like you're so close to music, that you can "see" the sounds.
5. Did you expect the success that came with when you dropped your debut album?
Reason: I can't say expected it as much as i'd hope for it. I don't really live my life with the surety that everything i do is going to be a success but just plan for it to be and in most cases it is. I just feel there's still way more to be done.

6. What do you think sets you apart from the other rappers here in South Africa?
Reason: i usually leave this question to the consumers of music. I feel like, if I figure that out, i'll lose the meaning of wanting to be more.
 7. How did the collabo for no sleep remix come about? And if you could do a collabo with any artist dead/alive , international or local who would it be?
Reason: Tibz came up with the line-up. We were all pretty comfortable with it, and we went in.
As for other collabo'sÅ  there's too many to mention, from The Parlotones to UhuruÅ  there's just too many ,but Hugh Masekela is at the top of the list.
8.  I¹ve seen you perform at least three times and each time you always bring something new, how do you prepare for a live performance?
Reason: It’s a process, and the process it’s never the same, the idea though, is to have a show.
A show you can present over and over but still keep fresh over and over.

9:What can we expect from you on the 1st of February at the Axecess Jozi from you?
Reason: This is the first of a series of shows i'll be doing this year to introduce my forth coming album Audio HD.,which is an extension of Audio 3D but just a lil better. We've added a new visual element to the band, just so we can "bump the show up". It’s going to be a mixture of new music and old and its all going to BANG!
10. Which artist are you looking forward to sharing the stage with at the Axecess Jozi music festival?
Reason: I've pretty much shared the stage with everyone on the show other than Big Sean.I look forward to that. There's so much to learn from all international performers. Both the good and bad ones. He happens to be a good one.
 11. What are your plans for 2014, and is it true that you dropping a new album this year? If so what can we expect from the new album?
Reason: New album #AudioHD
 12. The best and worst advice you were given?
Best: "Humble yourself"
Worst: "Don't go home"
13. What advice would you give to young kids who look up to you and want to join the industry?
Study the game. Study every successful artist and study how they became successful. Learn form their mistakes too and never repeat them.
