Powder to the people! Woman’s Day Colour Celebration! Colour Festival Johannesburg debut!
In
a nation that touts itself as defined by the rainbow; colour is a big deal –
and the city of Johannesburg is about to experience just what it means to
literally become a ‘rainbow nation’ at the city’s ‘Colour Festival Johannesburg.’
A fun-filled, magical and interactive festival
experience awaits the city of Johannesburg on Woman’s Day, celebrating in
colour with hugely popular ‘Colour Festival,’ to be held at Truth & the
Outdoor Mega-Park Arena, Midrand on Friday 9 August 2013.
The festival takes its cue from the ancient
Holi Hindi Festival of Colours – a boisterous and fun festival to welcome
spring.
The concept: Thousands of attendees, dressed in white,
will come together to share in music, dance, performance art and
visualizations, with a uniformed ‘colour-splash’ which will take place every
hour. After a minimum of 3 ‘colour-splashes’ the audience will be completely
covered by the coloured powder, depicting a true ‘rainbow nation’ feel.
To
date the ‘Colour Festival’ concept has taken the world by storm and
successfully spread to countries such as Singapore; Germany and the USA, with
Spain, France, Switzerland and many others currently planning to host their own
versions.
“We
saw how ready South Africa is for such concept when we hosted the debut
festival at Wavehouse, Umhlanga on
Saturday 6 April 2013. The event had sold-out (with an attendance of 6 700
attendees) with us having turn-away thousands of potential festival go-ers due
to the space limitation at the venue. We are hosting this festival in Johannesburg
to have the same impact as it does throughout the world – to unite the youth
through a mutual love of music, fun and to experience the feeling of a rainbow
nation. This non-religious festival set on African soil is an amazing melting
pot of cultural expression which features artists with varying electronic dance
music styles, catering to each and every musical whim and fancy. Teaming
together with the ‘Holi’ experience, the youth of the city will experience an
unforgettable ‘once in a lifetime’ colour splash experience!” said the
organizers.

The
festival will boast a state of the art sound, staging and lighting rig and will
feature international dance music sensation, ‘Adrian Lux’ hailing from Sweden. Adrian is most popularly known for his hot hit single which is play
listed on all South African radio stations, ‘Teenage Crime.’ The festival includes a total of 42 of South
Africa’s leading live performers, artists and DJs. Performances include: Roger Goode (5FM); DJ Fix (5FM); Lady Lea;
Royal K; Mark Stent; Dirty Herz; Ryan Dent; Ricardo da Costa & South
Africa’s leading Dub-Step/Drum-Step producer/DJ: Grimehouse among many others. This will be a Gauteng first for a
colour festival of such magnitude to be hosted in the region.
The
festival starts at 12H00, with gates opening at 11H00, with a build up to the
‘big toss’ – the moment all the colour powder is released for the first time
which will take place at 13H00. At this point patrons will not be easily
identifiable – the crowd will be seen as a rainbow nation. Colour tosses will
then take place every hour until the sun sets, where the venue will then morph
into the ultimate nightlife experience. The festival ends at 00H00.
The festival is
